Andy Warhol (1928-1987)
Andrew Varchola, Jr. was born August 6th 1928 in a poor family in the slums of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. When he was young he enjoyed drawing and magazines about film which most likely led to his obsession of the idea of celebrity. chorea, a disease of the nervous system that causes involuntary movements of the extremities that led to him becoming sensitive to light leading to the addition of sunglasses to his iconic look.
When he graduated from Schenley High School he enrolled in the Carnegie Institute of Technology to pursue a career in art as a commercial illustrator where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design in 1949. |
The factory
In 1963 Andy Warhol opened up the factory which was the place he worked as well as a hang out stop for the famous and the eccentric. In this tinfoil covered studio he made some of his most experimental works like the film "sleep" where he recorded a person sleeping. or when he had someone stare directly into a camera for a few minutes.
